Presenting: Master Planning as an Alignment Tool: Using Space to Advance Institutional Goals
Michael McCarthy serves as the EVP – CFO/COO of Northern Essex Community College (NECC). He provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for finance, information technology, facilities and maintenance, safety and security, police and sheriff training academies, auxiliary services, and athletics. During his tenure, NECC has undergone significant transformation, including major renovations across seven campus buildings—four of which required complete closures—and substantial improvements in accessibility. The college has completed a comprehensive Master Plan for all campuses and increased revenue from campus space utilization. Current projects include an initiative to explore an integrated partnership with a technical high school, installing a solar farm, and the development of a state-of-the-art sports complex. Before joining NECC in 2016, Michael served for more than 16 years with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department in Middleton, Massachusetts, where he held the position of Chief Executive Officer.
