Presenting: Contract to Campus Impact
Vaughn Smiley is a sophomore at the University of Florida studying Finance at the Warrington College of Business. He is dedicated to learning and absorbing as much as he can about the world of finance and business as a whole. Born and raised in Houston, TX, Vaughn attended Heights High School, graduating in 2025 near the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA and an International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme Certificate. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, where he made volunteering and community involvement a strong commitment.
In Gainesville, Vaughn made the Dean’s List both semesters of his freshman year, while finishing the year with a 4.0 GPA. Taking both general education and business specific courses while getting involved in finance clubs on campus, he gained a broad set of skills and knowledge by the time he left. After his freshman year, he travelled back to his hometown of Houston, TX and joined the Procurement Department at Houston City College (HCC) as a Procurement Assistant Intern during the summer of 2026.
As an intern at HCC, Vaughn led a group of projects to assist buyers and support the department’s operations. These included creating forms to streamline document processes, revising the internal and external websites for greater clarity and efficiency for HCC employees and end users, drafting an outline for a possible future internship program, and building an organization chart for department leadership to reference. In addition to his own projects, Vaughn assisted buyers and other coworkers by researching solicitation projects, improving file organization in Microsoft Teams, and creating receipts for contractors’ invoices in PeopleSoft.
