Leadership Lessons with Lasting Impact:
Building Capacity for Student Success: Tools and Strategies for CBOs
CCBO members attending this year’s CCBO Leadership Academy will gain actionable insights from Dr. Kelli Rainey and Terri Dautcher, two dynamic leaders from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Together, they will present “The Student Success Hub,” a practical session designed to equip finance professionals with tools and resources to improve student outcomes and build their Chief Business Officer (CBO) toolbox. This session will introduce attendees to a suite of free tools and resources that can be leveraged to build capacity, improve, and sustain student success.
As NACUBO’s Senior Director for Student Success Initiatives, Dr. Rainey oversees the development and implementation of the Student Success Hub, a platform designed to strategically support equitable student outcomes. With more than two decades of experience in enrollment management, student development, and institutional effectiveness, she will guide participants in applying data-informed strategies to enhance planning, budgeting, and student achievement.
Before NACUBO, Dr. Rainey served in key leadership roles at Johnson C. Smith University, including vice president for academic and student support services and chief operating officer. Her work included implementing data-informed planning and budgeting models and leading foundation-funded initiatives with partners such as the Duke Endowment, United Negro College Fund, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Joining her is Terri Dautcher, a Senior Consultant for NACUBO, who is leading a multi-year grant initiative to strengthen the connection between strategic finance practices and student outcomes. Dautcher brings a distinctive perspective shaped by a 20-year corporate career and nearly a decade as a business faculty member at Plymouth State University. She holds an MBA from Temple University and has completed extensive professional development and graduate coursework in adult learning theory, organizational dynamics, and process management—foundational knowledge that supports the thought-partnership she offers to higher education professionals every day.
With their combined expertise, Rainey and Dautcher will provide attendees with practical tools and strategies to enhance student outcomes. Participants will leave the session with actionable resources from the Student Success Hub and pragmatic approaches that can be adapted to align with their institution’s unique needs and goals.
