Senior Accountant - District Office


PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for assigned areas of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, other postemployment benefits (OPEB), pensions, leases, property taxes, debt service, fixed assets reconciliation and roll forward schedule, and tax compliance.

Essential Job Functions:
Prepare recurring monthly journal entries and other journal entries as needed.
Prepare account reconciliations and follow up on reconciling items to resolution.
Prepare various financial analyses, and various management and regulatory reports as needed.
Prepare year-end schedules and footnotes for Annual Financial Report including, but not limited to, OPEB, Pensions, Debt, Leases, and Fixed Assets.
Monitor GASB pronouncements and tax rules and regulations for applicability to the College.

Additional Job Functions:
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of computerized financial systems.
Promote the College by participating in community, state, or national organizations or conferences.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to demonstrate the College values
Know and understand GASB rules, have excellent analytical and accounting skills with the ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret data
Ability to reconcile complex accounts and prepare reports
Critical thinking skills – the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to problems, implement solutions, and monitor outcome of solutions. Ability to review, revise, and streamline business processes and procedures
Must have strong working knowledge of computer technology as it relates to accounting.
Possess excellent collaboration skills
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential personnel or College matters
Ability to adhere to College values, promote and follow Board of Trustee policies

Required Education:
Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting or Finance from a regionally-accredited college or university

Preferred Education:
Master of Business Administration or Master’s in Accountancy from a regionally-accredited university

Required Experience:
Five years of work experience in a complex accounting setting

Preferred Experience:
Experience in a higher education environment
Experience with Ellucian Banner software package

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 27

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
