Job Description:

The Technical College of the Lowcountry seeks to be the first choice for higher education in South Carolina’s Lowcountry Region. The college is a public, open access, two-year comprehensive college of higher education. The college is dedicated to serving the diverse educational, workforce development, and personal enrichment needs of the residents of the rural counties of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper. Through an atmosphere of shared values, the college encourages creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness among its students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Under the general supervision of the Vice President for Administrative Services, the Controller performs managerial and expert-level professional duties in overseeing the direction and management of the College’s accounting and financial functions.  Through open and transparent communications, the primary responsibilities are to prepare financial statements, the annual audit and ensure the college complies with all accounting guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Reconciles asset accounts on a monthly basis and reviews with VPAS. 
    • Works closely with the Director of Business Office Operations to resolve any discrepancies and to develop best practices.
    • Supervises the monthly and year-end closeout of the College’s financial system.
    • Directs the preparation, analysis and interpretation of annual and interim financial reports.
    • Analyzes cash flows, payments and AR.
    • Serve as an advisor/internal consultant regarding Business process improvements across the college as it relates to Administrative operations.
    • Directs agency conformance with general accepted accounting principles and reporting requirements of federal, state, and local agencies.
    • Ensure appropriate employee’s knowledge of governing regulations remains current through raining, self-study or other means.
    • Ensures financial operations of the College adhere to internal policy. 
    • Serves as principal liaison to the College’s financial service providers. 
    • Monitors cash balances and directs the College’s cash management program in consultation with the VP for Admin Services. 
    • Monitors College investments and makes recommendations to the VP for Admin Services.
    • Prepares a variety of complex reports to comply with external reporting requirements. 
    • Develops and prepares internal reports to be used by Executive Leadership and in decision making.
    • ]Serves on College committees as assigned. 
    • Participates regularly in SCTCS Accounting Manager peer group, and other statewide activities


REQUIRED: Bachelor degree with fifteen (15) semester hours in accounting-related courses and four (4) years professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, banking or finance.

PREFERRED: CPA and higher education experience.
