Objectives of the Program

  • To promote awareness of outstanding, innovative or collaborative practices of all community colleges, large and small
  • To recognize the achievements of community colleges
  • To publicize the exemplary practices of community colleges
  • To encourage cooperation among community colleges with other public or private entities (joint ventures, etc.)
  • To encourage effective and efficient practices in community colleges
  • To share and promote the transfer of knowledge and exemplary practices among all community colleges
  • To encourage innovative and diverse thinking by community colleges
  • To promote cost saving, revenue generating and service enhancement practices of community colleges
  • To provide ideas and benchmarks for improvement of community colleges

Award Categories

  1. Human Resources
    Includes innovative management, professional development and personnel practices.

  2. Financial Resources
    Includes revenue enhancement, cost reduction, budget and financial reporting practices.

  3. Other Services
    Includes auxiliary/enterprise, marketing, technology, privatization/subcontracting, facilities, maintenance and other service enhancements (other exemplary practices that do not fall into the Human or Financial Resources categories)

Practice Summary
The following information must accompany the application form:

  1. Describe the issue or challenge that your college’s practice was designed to address.
  2. Describe the process, timeline, participants and resources required to implement the practice.
  3. Identify positive outcomes (cost savings, revenue/resource enhancement, etc.).
  4. Elaborate on lessons learned and ease of transferability, so that other colleges may benefit from your practice and experience.

Limit your Practice Summary information to no more than 3 double-spaced pages.
Do not include additional information (reports, forms, etc.) with the application. Program judges may request additional information based on your application during the evaluation process.

Evaluation
A committee of business officers with technical experts and other specialists will select the entries to receive awards in each category. The judges will evaluate practices for conciseness, clarity and responsiveness to application requirements and Program objectives.
